What Being a Conscious Beauty Brand Means to Us

There is intention in everything we do. Though conscious beauty is a term that has been buzzing around the industry lately, it isn’t new to us. Our mission is to protect the planet and all living creatures that inhabit it so that we may all experience a better world. Every facet of our business was thoughtfully considered to ensure that everything and everyone is treated with the utmost of care and respect. From our inception, I committed myself to building a business with the highest of ethical standards, from sourcing and manufacturing to marketing and retailing. We recognize the influence Leaf People has on the world and we are as committed today as we were 20+ years ago when we were just getting started.

We have built genuine, long-standing relationships with ingredient vendors and certified organic farms who ensure each precious plant is ethically wild harvested and responsibly sourced from fair-trade certified organizations. Each ingredient formulated into a Leaf People product is treated with kindness and respect. There is a dark side to harvesting which leaves boxes unchecked and plants desolate. Wild harvesting isn’t a regulated system so buyers rely heavily on their vendors, trusting them with their ingredients. These relationships we’ve cultivated protect our plants from being overharvested and our skin from coming into contact with unclean and unsafe environments.

After our ingredients are safely harvested, we extract them by hand in our private lab. Using very low temperatures, little mechanized exposure (including cell phones and computers), and a blend of Buddhist medicine-making practices and cross-cultural herbal traditions, we begin the beautiful conversion. This delicate process helps to preserve vital nutrients and therapeutic properties to maintain the purity and potency of our ingredients as they make the peaceful transition from plant to product. Plant Spirit Medicine is a vital component of our ethos and interconnectedness with the planet. We recognize the life inside of plants and treat them as symbiotic souls.

Packaging & Shipping

Leaf People prioritizes the health of the planet in everything we do. We take into consideration the direct impact our company has on Mother Nature, down to the last piece of paper. We create our packaging from a blend of Forest Stewardship Council certified post-consumer recycled, recyclable, and biodegradable materials with vegetable and water-based ink, so every part of the product can be safely absorbed back into the planet. When it comes to shipping, we do not buy new materials, instead opting to reuse the boxes, papers, bubble wrap, and packing peanuts that we receive. This gives these single use products a longer lifespan, preventing them from going straight to the landfill or recycle center.

We believe in the power of our products. Each antioxidant and bioactive component is extensively studied to derive true, effective results on your skin. We don’t prioritize paid advertising, but instead use our social platforms as an intentional tool to build community and educate our customers. Our products speak for themselves in this industry, as they should.

Our prices remain the same throughout the year because we value every hand and heart that is shared in the journey of manufacturing our products. We purposely choose to discount our products once a year to safeguard the wellbeing of every laborer and each ingredient dedicated to our process from start to finish.

It’s exciting to see likeminded brands move towards conscious beauty and make these concepts mainstream. However, there is a fine line between true practice and commercializing on a trendy term. Do the research and dig a little deeper so that people and the planet are truly put first. We are all part of a greater organism and view our existence as part of the “whole” that is earth. We are all connected, we are all part of this whole.
